Getting Back to Basics

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:06 am by kellgaston

Millie is already back into her pre-pregnancy clothes and her baby is 3 weeks old today. Okay, it is time for my competitive nature to kick in!

It had been my goal to be at least back to 145 by now. And, I’m nowhere near that — or at least I do not think I am.

I have lost my pregnancy weight and can wear most of my pre-pregnancy clothes. But I still don’t have my body back yet.

Nothing seems to motivate me. I’ve gotten into the habit of eating what I want, when I want.

So, I truly must get back to the basics– what I did when I was where I liked being, weight wise.

So, here’s my plan (and I am using my blog to keep me accountable):

1. Journaling points. This one is huge.
2. One coke per day. So hard. I love my cokes.
3. Gym, gym, gym. A minimum of 3 trips per week. Maximize workout time by having a session with a trainer.
4. Record progress on here.

Have to do this . . .

Ava has a secondary infection and will be on antibiotics.

But the big news is that she has grown! She is now 17.8 lbs and 29″ — yeah Ava!

Ava’s Room

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:22 pm by kellgaston

Ava’s room was by no means finished when she arrived home from the hospital. I had grand ideas about painting a pattern of dashed lines on her purple walls. That never materialized. But, I’ve always wanted to do something more. So, in preparation for her first birthday, I’ve been doing a few things to pull her room “together.” (Nathaniel’s room also got personalized for his first birthday, since his nursery had been gender neutral).

One of my first priorities was to do initials for her . . . I ended up just doing a letter “A.” I loved some lettering that PBKids had, but it was way too expensive. This came from Uppercase Living and both kids love the result.

We’ve also done a two-part Uppercase Living decal on her long wall and some tulle curtains around her changing table. I’m not exactly satisfied with that part yet — it is a work in progress.

But, her room is in much better shape now — perfect for our little princess.

Real Estate is not for the faint of heart

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:12 pm by kellgaston

This week has been a mixed bag for me in the world of real estate. Over the last two weeks, I’ve written two offers (one has been accepted and the other is for a short sale so we haven’t heard back yet) and I’ve also sold one of my listings. Good.

But, I also “lost” a client — someone I spent a day with looking for houses in the boonies. Someone who was seriously late to our appointment — making me wait over an hour. I also had to pay for Ava to attend MDO in order to show this person around. I showed this person houses and made an appointment for a follow up day of house hunting. When I called to confirm that appointment, I was told that the day in question would not work. I told this person to check their calendar and let me know what would work. I never heard from them. I called and called. No answer. About a week later I finally get through and the person acts strangely, so strangely that I thought I needed to identify myself again because there was no reason for them to be talking to me in such a manner. The person proceeded to explain that they were in the midst of a “weird” situation, so weird in fact that it could not be talked about. I reminded them that I was here to help and would be happy to help however I could. Middle of the week, I finally hear that I am to have no further contact with this client because they have decided to use a different broker. No reason given. I think I deserve some explanation. I was extremely accommodating and tried to help them find what they were looking for. They were unhappy at having to move and how much more they were going to have to pay for a home. I offered to expand their search. It’s frustrating to try so hard to find something for someone only to have them disappear. I would like to know what I did wrong. Grrr . . . I hate not knowing.

In another transaction, the Realtor for the other side of the transaction got all huffy because I did not get a certain document to her fast enough. A little background . . . I’ve been busy, very busy. In fact, the OU/BYU game day was pretty much my only day off in I don’t know when. Every other day I’ve been negotiating or showing houses or writing offers. So, last Sunday I declared that I was not working. I wasn’t even intending to answer my phone, but I broke down and answered it once. This Realtor was insisting I send X document immediately! Ummm, it’s Sunday afternoon on a day I am not working. I told her I would send it Monday. Monday morning, I head to the gym. While I am at the gym, I receive an email from my broker saying she had been contacted by this agent who was trying to get my broker’s help to get the document. Before I could leave the gym, I’d been called twice by my office, asking me to take care of it. This is a document that often does not get taken care of till closing, btw. So, as soon as I got home, I scanned the stupid thing and sent it to her. Even after I sent it to her, I was getting nasty emails saying we didn’t have a contract, that she was still showing the house, etc. Why are some other Realtors such pains! Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest.

Needless to say, there are days when I think it would be nice just to say, umm, I’m done. I could go back to working special events at the hospital, or anything. But, then there are days when it is extremely rewarding, when you see how you are helping people. If only it weren’t for the occasional pesky Realtor and client you can’t understand.

Evil Facebook

Mom asked the other day if I still blog. Umm . . . in theory, yes, I do. But, Facebook seems to have taken over my “extra” time. And then there’s something I read recently, about how blogging is so self-centered and the ultimate evidence of hubris. I don’t want to be guilty of that — I blog to record things as well as express opinions. Nobody has to listen — just writing is therapeutic.

So, I need to be better about blogging because it is a good way to record events in the lives of the kiddoes.

Facebook is also evil because it is responsible for my broken computer screen — courtesy of Scott and that “cheating” vampire wars game.

Happy Birthday, Dad

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:51 pm by kellgaston

Today is my dad’s 85th birthday. Coincidentally, it was also a special occasion at the Norman Veteran’s Center — they had live entertainment and a picnic on the grounds. So, lots of people came up and we had lunch with dad. The kids had a good time playing outside — there is a pond and lots of room to run. I had to run meet some clients during the festivities, but the kids stayed and ate with the rest of the family. Afterwards, everyone came over and the kiddoes were able to play some more. Nathaniel and Cousin Joshua were very sweet together, except when they were fighting over toys.
