Olivia

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:16 pm by kellgaston

It should be no secret that I wanted to name Ava Olivia. Lillian Olivia to be exact. My grandmother was Lily and her mother was Ollie. Dh also had a grandmother named Ollie, I think. But, that name was quickly shot down. Who wouldn’t want the initials LOG? I kind of liked that.

Anyway, I love the name Ava too, but I still have a soft spot for Olivia.

And now, I have even more reason to like the name.

My niece who is the same age, Millie, gave birth on September 7th (just after 10 pm) to an 8 lb. 19 inch little girl. Olivia Lorraine Shaw and my little Ava are 10 months apart (the same age difference that her mom and I share). She’s a little sweetie. Just wish we were able to visit her more often. She is going to be called “Olive.”

Oh how she loves to “help” mommy.

Thanny loved playing with the cupcakes and Ava’s 1 candle. He didn’t really want to eat the cake, just dig in the icing. And he kept singing “to you, to you” — his version of happy birthday.

Thanny loves the dominoes -- stacking them with Daddy is great fun. I've had to start hiding them!

Unexpected Development

Sunday night, dh asked me to look over his benefit elections for 2010 with him. Boring. Who wants to be reminded of how bad their insurance is?

Well, he had a surprise for me — guess who will have infertility coverage starting in 2010? And an adoption benefit?

Thank you Che*apeake Energy and BCBS of Texas!

I don’t want to have to use it, but having $25K to spend on IF treatments opens up a world of possibilities. I thought we were done if we couldn’t get pg ourselves and now, that doesn’t have to be. I was always jealous of those who had this kind of coverage. Trying IVF was not a gamble for them, like it was for us.

I almost feel like we have to use it . . .

Happy Birthday Ava

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:11 am by kellgaston

Okay, so today is October 25th, not the 18th (Ava’s actual birthday). But we are having her OKC party today despite the fact that I have an open house. Why? We did not get to celebrate on her birthday because she had LICE! Along with Nathaniel. I discovered them on Saturday the 17th when I was feeding her. She kept scratching. I saw dark spots on her head but I thought lice were white. Did some more checking and made some phone calls and it was confirmed. They’d contracted head lice from their cousins. Just great!

I was very, very angry. The house was one big pile of laundry. Thanny just screamed and had to be held down for us to comb his hair. Not a good feeling to see live bugs crawling in your precious baby girl’s hair!

Fifteen years of public school plus working in daycare and teaching and I never had lice. Dh says it is because I am a snob and would never mingle or have any contact with certain people. Whatever. Never had lice!

So, I am ashamed and angry and it is poor Ava’s birthday and I just wanted to cry. We could not have her party under the circumstances. We had lunch, just the four of us, and had cupcakes and opened her present from us. Not very exciting.

But she was pretty and she had a good time, so I guess that is what is important — In spite of the lice.

Happy birthday sweetheart, even though it did not happen as I had planned. It was certainly memorable . . .

She doesn't look very happy does she?

Happy Birthday to Me!

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:43 pm by kellgaston

It really was that — a great birthday weekend.

To recap, dh took Friday off and I really did not know what our plan was. I needed some stuff for Ava’s cake and needed to run to the office at some point.

Scott keeps pestering me about getting ready but I was trying to get Nathaniel around for school.

Then the doorbell rings. It is Bloss. Apparently, dh was surprising me with a spa day. Bloss and I enjoyed a hydro massage and pedicure followed by lunch. She also helped me find a cake pan (quite a challenge I found out). Then she ended up babysitting that night while we had dinner at Falcone’s and I had cheesecake.

Saturday was all about Ava in Atoka. Almost everybody was there and it was lots of fun.

Sunday we had lunch and then dh and I went to see the new Michael Moore film. It was really good– probably his best.

Overall, a great weekend with great food, new cloths, and lots of family fun. Much better than the last couple of years. Hello 31.
